GEORGIA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is looking into two deaths after law enforcement discovered two men with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle early Saturday morning.

Authorities responded around 3:15 a.m. to what was initially reported as a car crash on Highway 301 South, just outside Sylvania city limits. When officers arrived, they found 30-year-old Leon Tolbert Jr. and 30-year-old Brandon Counts inside the car.

Tolbert was pronounced dead at the scene. Counts was transported to a hospital for treatment but later died from his injury.

The Georgia State Patrol determined the vehicle had not crashed but had simply gone off the side of the road. Investigators recovered a handgun from inside the car.

The GBI is conducting the investigation at the request of the Screven County Sheriff’s Office.
