SOUTH CAROLINA — Two women were found dead along a rural road in Sumter County, South Carolina, officials confirmed.
The bodies of 35-year-old Christine Marie McAbee and 38-year-old Kristen Grissom were discovered Friday, August 8, in the woods off Richbow Road by a local citizen. Authorities are treating the deaths as suspicious.
“We have begun our investigation, and we will have to wait until we have the results of the autopsies to know more,” said the Sumter County sheriff. “In the meantime, we cannot speculate.”
The bodies were taken by the county coroner’s office and are scheduled for autopsies at the Medical University of South Carolina.
It remains unclear how long the women had been deceased before being found, and no suspects or charges have been announced.
The area near Richbow Road is largely rural, with mostly fields and woods and few nearby homes. It is located about an hour east of Columbia.
