FLORIDA — A deadly wrong-way crash on the Florida Turnpike left two people dead and two others seriously injured Sunday, authorities said.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a Blue Honda traveling northbound in the wrong direction collided head-on with a Silver Toyota near Bird Road. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not been released.
After the initial collision, a white Toyota struck the disabled vehicles and a trooper’s cruiser.
The trooper was outside the vehicle at the time and was not injured. Two occupants of the white Toyota were airlifted to Kendall HCA with serious injuries.
The investigation remains ongoing. All northbound lanes of the Turnpike were temporarily closed, and traffic was diverted onto Bird Road.
