
VIRGINIA — Two people were killed Friday afternoon in a head-on collision in Halifax County, according to the Virginia State Police.
State troopers said the crash occurred just before 1:30 p.m. on Cody Road. Investigators determined that a Nissan Pathfinder driven by 28-year-old Melvyn Malik Crutchfield of Lynchburg crossed the center line and struck a 1997 Mercury Marquis head-on.
The Mercury was driven by 82-year-old Olin “Carson” Riddle Jr. of Nathalie. Authorities said both drivers died at the scene as a result of the crash.
Troopers reported there is no indication that alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police.
