VIRGINIA — A Fairfax County man and a pre-teen passenger were killed Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Dawn Boulevard in Caroline County.
Virginia State Police said the crash occurred at 3:48 p.m. on Aug. 18, about 700 feet east of Winston Loop.
According to investigators, a 2013 Chrysler van traveling east crossed the center line and struck a westbound 2015 Mack truck. The van then ran off the road, hit a tree, and came to rest in the woods.
The driver of the van, 46-year-old Alberio Samperio of the Annandale area of Fairfax County, died at the scene, along with a pre-teen passenger seated in the front. Their name has not yet been released.
Two additional juveniles riding in the back of the van were flown by MedFlight for treatment of their injuries. State police noted that all occupants of the van were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
The Virginia State Police Division I Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
