
OHIO — Two people are dead and one person is seriously injured after a tree fell onto a moving vehicle in Vinton County on Saturday night, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
The fatal crash occurred on U.S. Route 50 near Weaver Church Road in Knox Township around 9:02 p.m. on July 27. The Jackson Dispatch Center received the initial call reporting the incident.
Troopers said a 2021 Nissan Altima carrying three passengers from McArthur was traveling westbound when a falling tree struck the vehicle. The car then veered off the left side of the road and collided with an embankment in a creek.
The two front-seat occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. A rear-seat passenger suffered serious injuries and was transported to Grant Medical Center for treatment.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office, Elk Township Volunteer Fire Department, Vinton County EMS, the Vinton County Coroner’s Office, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
The crash remains under investigation.
