OHIO — Two people are dead following a violent crash Saturday night at the intersection of 4th Street NW and Wertz Avenue NW, according to the Canton Police Department.
Police Chief John Gabbard said the crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. on June 7.
A Volkswagen Golf was traveling northbound on Wertz Avenue NW at what police described as a “very high rate of speed” when it struck a Nissan Altima.
According to investigators, the Altima had been heading southbound on Wertz Avenue and was attempting to turn left onto 4th Street NW when it was hit.
The driver of the Volkswagen, 41-year-old Christopher Siple Jr. of Canton, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Canton Fire Department. The driver of the Altima, 28-year-old Dai’sha Wise, also of Canton, was transported to Aultman Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The Canton Metro Crash Team is currently investigating the incident.
