OHIO — A 27-year-old woman and a 3-year-old child died Thursday after an SUV crashed into a retention pond along U.S. Route 40, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Authorities said the crash occurred around 6:25 p.m. on June 5.
A 29-year-old woman was driving a Jeep Cherokee westbound when the vehicle went off the right side of the road, hit a ditch, and came to rest in a retention pond.
Emergency crews pulled the driver and four passengers — including two children — from the submerged vehicle. Kelita Alfred, 27, of Columbus, and the 3-year-old were transported to OhioHealth Doctors Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
A 5-year-old child was also taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
