OHIO — Two people were killed Tuesday in a head-on crash involving an Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) cruiser on State Route 104, according to authorities.
The crash happened when a Chevrolet Silverado crossed the center line and struck a marked OSHP cruiser traveling southbound. Both vehicles went off the side of the road, and the pickup truck caught fire, investigators said.
OSHP identified the victims as Harold Smith Jr., 45, and Amber Aills, 29. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. Aills was transported to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The trooper involved in the crash was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
