Two people dead following vehicle crash in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — Two people were killed and an infant was injured in a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial truck in Washington County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened around 11:42 a.m. Wednesday on N.C. 32 just south of N.C. 99.

According to investigators, a Ford passenger car traveling north crossed the centerline and collided with an empty Freightliner grain truck traveling southbound.

The driver of the Ford, 42-year-old Harry Spruill of Plymouth, and a passenger, 37-year-old Whitney Spruill, were pronounced dead at the scene.

An infant who was also in the vehicle was transported to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said the driver of the Freightliner truck was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
