LOUISIANA — Two people were killed in a single-vehicle crash north of Vinton over the weekend, according to authorities.
Trooper Roy Jones with the Louisiana State Police said the crash occurred just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, along Louisiana Highway 109 near Line Road. The driver was identified as Jerry Deslatte of Port Arthur, Texas. The name of the passenger has not yet been released.
Investigators said Deslatte was driving a pickup truck north on La. 109 when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve for reasons still under investigation. The vehicle entered a ditch and overturned.
According to state police, Deslatte was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the truck. The passenger was also unrestrained. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. Louisiana State Police said efforts are ongoing to identify the passenger.
