GEORGIA — Two people from Sandersville died early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash, authorities said.

Sheriff Joel Cochran reported the crash happened around 1 a.m. near Highway 24 West and Smith Robinson Road on the Fall Line Freeway.

The driver, 40-year-old Michael Johnson, and passenger 38-year-old Agustin Gonzalez Diaz were both pronounced dead at the scene.

While the road remained open, the sheriff’s office initially asked motorists to avoid the area.
