GEORGIA — Two people were killed late Thursday night in a crash on Interstate 85 in Fairburn, according to Fairburn Police and the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
The crash occurred around 11 p.m. in the northbound lanes near Senoia Road. Authorities say a Hyundai Sonata rear-ended a tractor-trailer that was slowing down for traffic.
The driver of the Hyundai, Derrick Epps, and the front passenger, Ka’Mia Frazier, were both pronounced dead at the scene. A 7-month-old infant in the backseat survived the crash and showed no visible injuries. The child was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Arthur M. Blank Hospital for further evaluation.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
According to GSP’s preliminary investigation, Epps was following the tractor-trailer too closely, which led to the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
