OHIO — Two people are dead following an apparent murder-suicide at the Orrville Power Plant in Wayne County on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
Officers with the Orrville Police Department were called to the power plant around 3:17 p.m. on a report of shots fired, according to a police spokesperson. When officers arrived, they found two men in a parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds.
Investigators said a suspect approached a 46-year-old man in the parking lot and fired a gun, striking the victim. After the shooting, the suspect sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and died at the scene. The suspect was identified as Robert Simon.
The victim was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. In a social media post, Matt Plybon said a power plant employee was also injured.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation. Police said there is no active threat to the public.
