SOUTH CAROLINA — Two people are dead following an apparent murder-suicide that led to a major shutdown on Interstate 85 Saturday afternoon, according to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident began within the city limits of Mauldin, where a 24-year-old woman was reportedly kidnapped by an armed suspect.
Authorities say the suspect, who was driving the vehicle, opened fire while the woman was trapped inside.
The suspect then turned the vehicle around and began driving northbound on I-85. Near the Piedmont exit, the suspect fatally shot himself, causing the vehicle to come to a stop.
The woman was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
According to the sheriff’s office, it appears the two individuals knew each other. The investigation remains ongoing.
