
SOUTH CAROLINA — Two children are dead after being struck by a vehicle while riding bicycles in Spartanburg County on Sunday, according to authorities.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash occurred around 12:20 p.m. on Asheville Highway at Brock Street, a few miles west of Spartanburg.
Investigators reported that a 2016 Honda Accord was traveling along the roadway when it ran off the right side and struck two bicyclists who were on the sidewalk along the eastbound side of the highway.
Both children were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but later died from their injuries. Officials said the victims were 9 and 13 years old.
Authorities said one of the occupants of the vehicle was also transported to the hospital. That person’s condition has not been released.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
