Two people arrested on drug charges in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — Kinston police made three arrests Wednesday night after responding to separate incidents across the city.

At around 8 p.m., officers were called to the 200 block of W. Vernon Ave. for a disturbance involving 27-year-old Juan Vilchis of Dover, who was reportedly armed with a baseball bat.

While the incident was verbal in nature, officers learned Vilchis was wanted by the N.C. Department of Adult Corrections. He was taken into custody and is being held at the Lenoir County Jail without bond.

Later, at 10:34 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. involving 40-year-old David Green of Grifton. Officers found cocaine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Green was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held under secured bond at the Lenoir County Jail.

At 11:20 p.m., officers responded to another disturbance on the 1900 block of W. Washington Ave., where they encountered 41-year-old Quartesha Smith. A safety frisk revealed she was in possession of narcotics.

During the attempted arrest, Smith resisted and kicked officers. Investigators said she also assaulted a disabled individual, assaulted another person, and had stolen property. Smith faces multiple charges, including possession of cocaineassault causing injury to a law enforcement officerresisting arrestassault on a disabled individualsimple assault, and larceny. She is being held under secured bond at the Lenoir County Jail.
