Two people arrested following traffic stop, foot pursuit in Georgia

GEORGIA — Two men on felony probation were arrested Thursday following a traffic stop that led to a brief foot pursuit in Toccoa, according to the Toccoa Police Department.

Police identified the suspects as Kenneth Brown and Nicholas Steele. Officers initiated the stop at Buddy’s Quick Stop after determining that Brown, the driver, was suspected of possessing a firearm and had an active felony probation violation warrant.

During the stop, Steele exited the vehicle and fled on foot, prompting officers to search a nearby wooded area. Authorities said Steele attempted to avoid capture by running behind the Big A Package Store before officers apprehended him after a short pursuit.

Investigators said Brown was on felony probation for possession of methamphetamine. Steele was on felony probation for burglary and now faces additional charges, including obstruction for fleeing from a traffic stop and possession of drug-related objects.

The Toccoa Police Department was assisted by several regional law enforcement agencies during the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
