ILLINOIS — Two teenage boys have been arrested in connection with a shooting that left a 14-year-old male with multiple potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds on Tuesday evening.

According to the Champaign Police Department, officers responded to a report of a shooting at around 5 p.m. on July 15 near the intersection of Third Street and Beardsley Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found the 14-year-old victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers and members of the Champaign Fire Department provided immediate medical aid before the victim was transported to a local hospital. Officials say the teen is now in stable condition.

Investigators determined the victim had been in an outdoor common area of an apartment complex when several individuals approached and opened fire.

Evidence collected at the scene included multiple shell casings and building damage caused by gunfire.

Overnight, police arrested a 15-year-old male and a 16-year-old male, both from Champaign. Due to their ages, their names have not been released. Two firearms were also recovered during the investigation.

Champaign police remained on scene for several hours collecting evidence and seeking witnesses and surveillance video. Residents and businesses in the area with exterior cameras are encouraged to contact police.

Although arrests have been made, the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Champaign Police at 217-351-4545. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 217-373-8477, online at 373tips.com, or via the P3 Tips app.
