FLORIDA — Two 17-year-olds have been arrested following a shooting that left a 19-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the face in Deltona on Thursday evening, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the shooting around 6:46 p.m. in the parking lot of 2820 Howland Boulevard.
When they arrived, they found the 19-year-old victim with a gunshot wound near his mouth. He was alert and talking at the scene before being transported to a hospital as a trauma alert.
According to investigators, the victim approached a group of individuals while holding a gun. One of the 17-year-olds pulled out his own firearm and shot the victim.
That teen was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a minor and carrying a concealed firearm.
The victim’s 17-year-old brother was also arrested after deputies said he retrieved his brother’s gun after the shooting and hid it in a nearby wooded area.
He is charged with possession of a firearm by a minor, tampering with evidence, and violation of probation.
The investigation remains ongoing, and deputies say additional charges may be filed.
