INDIANA — Two people were arrested early Friday morning following a high-speed chase on U.S. 20, according to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the incident began around 12:40 a.m. when deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding near Wilhelm Road. The driver fled, leading officers on a pursuit that reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.
The chase ended when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a sign near County Road 500 East, officials said.
Deputies arrested 19-year-old Anttaniece T. Huey, a passenger in the vehicle, after a brief foot chase. The driver, 28-year-old Kevin D. Reed, ran from the crash scene but was located about half a mile away near the U.S. 20 and State Road 2 interchange with help from a drone.
Authorities said Reed had shed clothing while running and was wearing only underwear when taken into custody.
Both suspects were taken to a hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the La Porte County Jail.
Reed faces preliminary charges including resisting law enforcement, operating while intoxicated, and leaving the scene of a crash. Huey was also arrested on a resisting allegation.
Officials said Reed’s bond was set at $755 cash-only, while Huey’s bond was listed at $605.
