NORTH CAROLINA — Two people were arrested on drug trafficking charges Wednesday following a traffic stop conducted by the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Highway Interdiction Team.
According to Sheriff Burnis Wilkins, detectives stopped an SUV traveling northbound on Interstate 95 near the 8-mile marker for moving violations. During the stop, RCSO K-9 “Baba” performed a free air sniff around the exterior of the vehicle and gave a positive alert for the odor of illegal drugs.
Wilkins said a subsequent search of the SUV led to the discovery and seizure of approximately 10 pounds of suspected methamphetamine. The drugs were reportedly concealed inside the rear quarter panel of the vehicle.
The driver, Bryan Manuel Diaz-Aldana, and the passenger, Lluvia Godinez-Robledo, both from Georgia, were arrested at the scene without incident.
Diaz-Aldana is charged with two counts of trafficking in methamphetamine and maintaining a drug vehicle. Godinez-Robledo is charged with two counts of trafficking in methamphetamine.
Both suspects are being held at the Robeson County Detention Center under a $200,000 bond.
