WEST VIRGINIA — Two people were arrested Thursday, December 11, 2025, following a multi-agency drug investigation and search operation at a residence in Martinsburg, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, the Martinsburg Police Department, and special agents and task force officers with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and West Virginia State Police K-9 units, conducted the operation at 35 Gall Drive.

Authorities said the search was carried out under a state-issued search warrant obtained after a joint investigation involving the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, ATF, and Martinsburg Police Department.

As a result of the operation, Samantha R. Gilroy, 47, and Thomas Clay Rutherford, 42, were taken into custody. Gilroy was arrested at a separate location on outstanding warrants related to narcotics offenses. Rutherford was arrested at the residence on an outstanding warrant for probation violations stemming from underlying felony narcotics charges.

During the search of the residence, investigators seized U.S. currency, approximately 86 grams of suspected methamphetamine, about five grams of suspected fentanyl, two handguns, an extended magazine, and ammunition.

Authorities said additional narcotics- and firearm-related charges are pending against Rutherford based on evidence obtained during the investigation and execution of the search warrant.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Martinsburg Police Department, ATF, and other participating agencies for their cooperation and assistance, noting the operation highlights the importance of interagency efforts to combat drug activity and violent crime.
