SOUTH CAROLINA — A routine traffic stop on Interstate 95 turned into a major drug bust Wednesday, leading to the arrest of two men on trafficking charges.

According to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a vehicle traveling south near the 170 mile marker for a moving violation.

During the stop, deputies said they developed reasonable suspicion of criminal activity and conducted a probable cause search.

The search uncovered 120 vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana weighing more than 100 pounds and valued at approximately $120,000.

The driver, Carl Dais Jr., 24, of Florence, and passenger, Alif Kiiza, 25, of Columbia, were both arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana. Under South Carolina law, trafficking between 100 and 2,000 pounds of marijuana carries a minimum sentence of 25 years in prison.

Dais and Kiiza are being held at the Florence County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
