SOUTH CAROLINA — Two men were arrested Tuesday evening on multiple drug charges following an investigation in the Charleston Farms community, according to the North Charleston Police Department.
Erek Lynn Cox, 37, is charged with possession of fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Gerardo Juarez Ramirez, 19, is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
Officers were attempting to locate a man reportedly riding in an unregistered vehicle around 6 p.m. in the area off Remount Road.
When they arrived, police said they observed several people attempting to hide. One suspect was seated in the passenger seat of the vehicle while another stood nearby.
Police reported seeing a large bag of green plant-like material protruding from a suspect’s pocket as officers informed him he was being detained for investigation. The suspect allegedly pulled away in an attempt to distance himself from officers but was quickly detained and handcuffed.
The bag was found to contain approximately 40 grams of a substance that field-tested positive for THC. Officers also reported a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and observed a plastic baggie containing additional green plant-like material, leading to a probable-cause search.
During the search, officers discovered 0.3 grams of a white powdery substance and six grams of a clear crystalline substance. The substances field-tested presumptive positive for fentanyl, methamphetamine and THC.
Cox and Ramirez were booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
