SOUTH CAROLINA — Two people were arrested Wednesday morning after deputies discovered more than seven grams of methamphetamine during a property check in Greenwood County, according to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said a deputy was patrolling the area around 8:40 a.m. when they conducted a proactive check of a vacant lot. Investigators reported that two vehicles were parked closely together behind a larger vehicle, making them difficult to see from the road.

When the deputy approached and spoke with one of the occupants, several items were observed in plain view that indicated possible illegal drug activity.

After obtaining consent to search the area where the individual was seated, the deputy found 4.93 grams of an off-white, crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Deputies then conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle, which led to the discovery of two additional bags containing similar substances. The additional baggies weighed 0.92 grams and 1.22 grams and also field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Both occupants were taken to the Greenwood County Detention Center. Their names have not been released.

One person was charged with second-offense distribution of methamphetamine due to a prior conviction. The other was charged with first-offense distribution of methamphetamine.

The investigation is ongoing.
