Two people arrested following drug bust in Ohio

OHIO — A late-night traffic stop on Thursday led to the arrest of two Springfield residents on drug-related charges, according to Russells Point Police.

At around 10:18 p.m., officers observed a gold Buick sedan commit a traffic violation while traveling on U.S. Route 33 near Wilgus Drive.

When police activated their emergency lights to initiate a stop, the vehicle failed to pull over immediately and continued eastbound, with its occupants reportedly moving around and glancing back at the patrol car.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop in the 100 block of Sunnyside Avenue. Officers made contact with the driver, identified as William Hayes, 40, who showed signs of impairment and was found to be driving without a valid license.

Hayes denied any illegal activity but gave officers permission to search the vehicle.

During the search, police found a yellow plastic duck with a straw containing a white powdery substance, along with several pieces of a white, crystal-like material. The substance later tested positive for methamphetamine.

Hayes and his passenger, Sunny Parson, 42, were both taken into custody and charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. They were transported to the Logan County Jail without incident.
