Two people arrested following drug bust in Ohio

OHIO — Two people were arrested Friday in an Elyria drug bust that resulted in multiple drug trafficking, weapons and child endangerment charges, according to police.

The Elyria Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested 22-year-old Dominic Strader and 25-year-old Makayla Myers at a home in the 1100 block of Garden Street.

Authorities said the task force initially arrested Strader on an outstanding warrant through the Lorain Police Department. During that arrest, officers discovered a large quantity of marijuana and two rifles inside the residence. Detectives with the Elyria Police Department’s Narcotics Unit were called to the scene.

Police said two minor children were inside the home at the time the warrant was executed.

Investigators obtained a residential search warrant after learning Strader has prior violent convictions that prohibit him from possessing firearms. During the search, detectives seized two firearms — one of which was reported stolen — along with approximately 30.1 grams of heroin, 11.4 grams of methamphetamine, 10 grams of cocaine and 376 blue fentanyl pills.

Officers also recovered about two pounds of marijuana packaged in various quantities, drug paraphernalia, U.S. currency and drug packaging materials.

Strader faces multiple charges, including two counts of having weapons under disability, receiving stolen property, trafficking in cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, fentanyl and marijuana, as well as possession of those same controlled substances. Several of the trafficking charges include juvenile specifications because children were present in the home. He is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Myers, who police identified as a listed tenant of the residence, was charged with permitting drug abuse and endangering children due to the presence of firearms and narcotics in the home.

Arrangements were made for the children to be released to a family member, police said.

Elyria Police Captain Bill Lantz said the case highlights the importance of coordination between local law enforcement and the U.S. Marshals task force in removing illegal firearms, fugitives and narcotics from the community.

The investigation remains ongoing.
