OHIO — A high-speed chase following an undercover drug operation ended in a crash and the arrest of two suspects in Cleveland on June 27, according to police.
The incident began around 5:20 p.m. on Garfield Boulevard, where officers from the Garfield Heights Police Department and agents with the Ohio Investigative Unit (OIU) observed what they described as an active drug deal.
As officers approached, the driver of the suspect vehicle allegedly rammed an OIU vehicle and fled, leading officers on a pursuit through the area.
The chase ended when the suspect crashed into a signpost near Ottawa Road.
Both the driver and passenger attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 38 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 23 grams of suspected powder cocaine, 8 grams of suspected fentanyl, a loaded Glock .357 handgun, and approximately $3,000 in cash.
Police said the driver is currently on parole and has open cases related to drug trafficking and fleeing law enforcement. The passenger is on probation for previous weapons violations. The names of the suspects have not been released.
