
NORTH CAROLINA — Two people were arrested Tuesday after a police K9 alerted officers to the presence of narcotics during a traffic stop on Carolina Beach Road, according to the Wilmington Police Department.
Officers stopped a vehicle in the 2500 block of Carolina Beach Road around 4:40 p.m. on March 10. A K9 unit was called to the scene and alerted officers to possible drugs inside the vehicle.
Police searched the vehicle and said they found illegal narcotics along with drug paraphernalia.
Gary Dean Hubbard Jr., 41, of Currie, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, altering, stealing or destroying evidence, a window tint violation and driving without liability insurance. His bond was set at $15,000.
Ellen Anne Atkinson, 29, of Wilmington, was charged with felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, altering, stealing or destroying evidence and felony probation violation. Her bond was set at $20,000.
Both suspects were taken to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility.
