NORTH CAROLINA — A traffic stop in Rutherford County, North Carolina, led to the discovery of drugs and a hidden safe filled with jewelry, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies stopped a vehicle Wednesday on U.S. Highway 74 at U.S. 221 South. The driver, identified as Christopher Markov of Charlotte, and passenger Chasidy Weaver, also of Charlotte, were inside the vehicle.
Investigators said narcotics were visible in the center console, prompting a K9 unit to conduct a search. After the K9 alerted on the vehicle, deputies found a black safe concealed inside.
Authorities seized approximately 185 grams of powder fentanyl, 8 grams of purple “rock” fentanyl, about 1 gram of cocaine, $1,218 in cash, and the safe containing jewelry.
Markov and Weaver were arrested and taken to the Rutherford County Detention Center.
