NORTH CAROLINA — A joint law enforcement operation in Buncombe County led to the seizure of large quantities of illegal narcotics and the arrest of two suspects earlier this month.

On November 5, members of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office Illegal Gun Reduction and Narcotics Task Force (IGRANT), along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), conducted an arrest warrant operation in Black Mountain. The Asheville Police Department and Black Mountain Police Department also assisted.

During the operation, investigators arrested Nazae Maewether on multiple outstanding felony warrants. Authorities said his arrest led to the discovery of additional drugs and prompted further charges for both Maewether and Mahogany Brewer.

Officials said the investigation resulted in the seizure of:

  • 74.6 grams of fentanyl
  • 16.6 grams of cocaine
  • 2.7 grams of marijuana
  • $1,044.25 in cash
  • Miscellaneous drug paraphernalia

Both Maewether and Brewer face multiple drug trafficking and possession charges, including trafficking in fentanyl and possession with intent to sell and deliver controlled substances. Brewer also faces a charge of maintaining a vehicle for the sale of controlled substances.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
