MARYLAND — Two men were arrested following a traffic stop in Garrett County that led to the seizure of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Bryson Meyers said deputies conducted a traffic stop around 10 p.m. on March 19 along Kitzmiller Road for traffic violations.
The driver was identified as 46-year-old John Jeremy Willis of Kitzmiller. Authorities determined Willis had two active warrants out of Mineral County, West Virginia, including felony controlled dangerous substance charges and a failure to appear warrant.
The passenger initially provided a false name but was later identified as 34-year-old Curtis Eugene Paugh Jr. of Keyser, West Virginia. Deputies said they observed Paugh discard an item into a nearby wooded area as he exited the vehicle.
A K-9 unit was deployed and located methamphetamine packaged for distribution. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of additional methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. In total, approximately 15 grams of methamphetamine were seized.
Investigators also determined Paugh had an outstanding warrant from Shenandoah County, Virginia, for felony controlled dangerous substance charges.
Willis was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and related traffic violations.
Paugh faces multiple charges, including possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and making a false statement to law enforcement.
Both men were transported to the Garrett County Detention Center, where they are being held without bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
