KENTUCKY — A Thursday afternoon collision in the McCracken County courthouse parking lot escalated into a drug-related arrest, landing two women in legal trouble, authorities reported.
According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and court security officers responded to the crash around 4:25 p.m. on April 24.
The driver, identified as Ginger Whitfield, remained at the scene, but her passenger, 29-year-old Kelsey Collins, fled on foot.
Paducah Police later located Collins, who was found to have an active arrest warrant.
Investigators discovered illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Collins faces charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) — marked as her third offense — and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Whitfield, suspected of operating the vehicle under the influence of an unspecified substance, was cited for multiple offenses, including operating a motor vehicle under the influence (DUI), first-degree possession of hydrocodone, failure to produce insurance, and two counts of wanton endangerment.
Authorities noted Whitfield sustained injuries in the crash, prompting her court citation to be deferred.
Both women are slated to appear in court to address the charges. The sheriff’s office confirmed the incident remains under investigation.
