Two people arrested following drug bust in Georgia

GEORGIA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) arrested two people Friday following a months-long investigation into drug trafficking in Dublin.

Brantley David Johnson, 36, and Makesha Latrice Johnson, 49, face numerous charges including possession of firearms and multiple drug offenses, according to a GBI media release.

Officers seized drugs during a search of a home in the 500 block of Pine Street, uncovering over one pound of suspected methamphetamine, nearly a pound of suspected powder cocaine, nearly an ounce of suspected crack cocaine, half an ounce of suspected ecstasy/MDMA, along with unspecified amounts of oxycodone and alprazolam.

Authorities also recovered one AR-style rifle, one handgun, and more than $5,000 in cash.

The arrests came after a two-month investigation by the GBI Middle Georgia Gang Task Force. Both Johnsons were booked into the Laurens County Jail.

They face charges including trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute ecstasy and cocaine, possession of a firearm during a felony, and possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute. Additionally, Makesha Johnson was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

The investigation involved collaboration between the GBI Middle Georgia Gang Task Force, Dublin Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Department of Community Supervision, and Georgia Department of Corrections.

The task force stated the operation aims to reduce drug distribution and gang activity in Central Georgia to create a safer community.
