COLORADO — A routine traffic stop by Conejos County Sheriff’s deputies late Wednesday night led to the arrest of two individuals now facing multiple felony charges, including drug possession, illegal weapons, and child abuse.
According to a press release from Sheriff Garth Crowther, deputies conducted the stop around 11 p.m. on May 21 in the La Jara area.
During the stop, deputies observed illegal drug paraphernalia, prompting a search of the vehicle.
The search uncovered multiple illegal items, including on one of the passengers. Both individuals in the vehicle were arrested.
The suspects have been identified as Brandi Medina, 28, and Daniel Medina, 28, both of Sanford.
They are facing charges including possession of a controlled substance, unlawful distribution, manufacturing, dispensing or sale of a controlled substance, possession of an illegal weapon, and child abuse (non-injury).
Sheriff Crowther stated that the drugs seized include approximately 57.48 grams of fentanyl and 1.46 grams of methamphetamine. Deputies also confiscated $265.33 in cash.
“The amount of drugs that will not make it to our streets is approximately 57.48 grams of fentanyl and approximately 1.46 grams of methamphetamines,” Sheriff Crowther wrote.
“$265.33 will not help contribute to the sale or purchase of illegal drugs or items. This is a win for great teamwork within the Conejos County Community!”
