Two people arrested following drug bust in Alabama

ALABAMA — A routine traffic stop on Tuesday evening led to the arrest of two Somerville residents after officers discovered drugs, a firearm, and other illegal items, according to the Somerville Police Department.

Christopher Stanley Walls, 42, and Sonja Nicole Long, 44, were taken into custody on April 15 following the stop on North Drive around 5:40 p.m.

Police said the vehicle was pulled over after it failed to use a turn signal.

During the stop, officers learned that Walls, who was driving, had an active arrest warrant through the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

Long, the passenger, had previously trespassed at the location where the stop occurred.

A search of the vehicle turned up the following items:

• 3.88 ounces of crystallized methamphetamine
• 2.5 grams of methamphetamine mixed with fentanyl
• A .223 caliber Bushmaster rifle with a loaded magazine
• Multiple digital scales believed to be used for drug distribution
• Counterfeit U.S. currency labeled “For Motion Picture Use Only”
• Several debit cards not belonging to either suspect
• Brass knuckles

Walls and Long were both transported to the Morgan County Jail without incident.

Walls faces charges including trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking fentanyl, being a felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to signal.

Long is charged with trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking fentanyl, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a forged instrument, illegal possession or fraudulent use of a credit/debit card, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a concealed weapon, criminal trespass (third degree), and a probation violation.

Both suspects remain in custody at the Morgan County Jail.
