ALABAMA — Two men have been charged with trafficking marijuana following a police pursuit that ended with the seizure of approximately 24 pounds of the drug, according to Abbeville police.

In a statement, Abbeville Police Department Chief Marlos Walker said officers attempted to stop a vehicle Saturday after the driver failed to obey traffic signals. The vehicle, occupied by Jaylen Tenarous Faison and Jeffrey Tayion Summerlin, led officers on an approximately 25-mile pursuit through Henry County.

Police said the pursuit ended when the vehicle eventually came to a stop. During a search of the vehicle, officers reportedly found about 24 pounds of marijuana, much of it packaged into one-pound bags, along with additional marijuana concealed inside the vehicle.

Faison and Summerlin were both charged with trafficking marijuana. They also face felony charges for attempting to elude law enforcement. Police did not release information about where the suspects were staying at the time of the incident.

The case remains under investigation.
