Two people arrested following deadly shooting incident in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA — Two people have been arrested following a fatal shooting Wednesday night in Sumter County, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a residence on Highway 15 South after receiving a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they attempted to render aid to the victim, identified as 22-year-old Ladea Barnes.

Barnes died from her injuries.

Authorities said the individuals involved were acquaintances who had gathered prior to the shooting.

Shalaya Jermyra Jackson, 26, of Sumter, has been charged with manslaughter. Gabriel Sentel Jacobs Jr., 25, also of Sumter, was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun by a person convicted of a violent crime.

Both suspects are being held at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center as they await bond hearings.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing.
