FLORIDA — Two people have been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist in Seminole County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
Troopers said 37-year-old Christopher Canet was arrested Wednesday on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death. His wife, 39-year-old Belkis Rodriguez, was also arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and accessory after the fact. Both were booked into the Seminole County Jail.
The crash happened Saturday around 9:46 p.m. on U.S. 17-92 near Spartan Drive. FHP said a northbound vehicle struck a 25-year-old Winter Springs man who was riding in the marked bicycle lane. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness reported that the vehicle entered U.S. 17-92 from State Road 414 before the crash and fled north on 17-92 afterward.
Investigators later located the vehicle involved, a 2016 BMW X6, which has been taken into evidence. Troopers are still working to determine who was driving at the time of the crash.
