NORTH CAROLINA — Two men were arrested Thursday morning following an alleged robbery and assault at a Wilmington hotel, according to police.
The Wilmington Police Department (WPD) responded to a reported business robbery at the Suburban Studios Extended Stay on Eastwood Road just before 6 a.m.
Authorities say two male suspects entered the hotel through the back door, broke into a safe, stole money, and then assaulted the hotel clerk with a blunt, sharp object.
The suspects also damaged surveillance cameras before fleeing with stolen ice cream.
Shortly after, officers received a report of two men attempting to break into a toolbox behind a nearby Home Depot.
Upon arrival, police found one suspect, Dustin Wilburn, 38, who had fallen near a retention pond. The second suspect, Noah Hite, 27, fled but was later apprehended.
Investigators recovered evidence linking the men to the hotel robbery, including the stolen safe, cash, and open ice cream.
Wilburn and Hite are charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy, safecracking, second-degree kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest.
They are being held without bond at the New Hanover County Detention Center.
