OHIO — A man and a woman were taken into custody Wednesday following a standoff with police in Ravenna that investigators say began with the assault and robbery of another man.
According to the Ravenna Police Department, officers were alerted around 6:45 a.m. when a 33-year-old man arrived at the police station reporting he had been robbed at an apartment in the 400 block of West Main Street.
Police said the victim told officers he had stayed at the residence overnight and was preparing to leave in the morning when he was assaulted. During the attack, the victim reported that his cell phone and $400 in cash were taken. Officers noted the man was bleeding from the face and transported him to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center for treatment.
As the investigation continued, officers identified two suspects inside the apartment. The Metro SWAT team was called to the scene shortly before noon. Police said the suspects eventually opened the door after officers issued audible commands through a loudspeaker and deployed two explosive distraction devices.
Jasman A. Al-Shwqiyqt of Ravenna and Sebastian T. Facemire of Akron were taken into custody without further incident. Both were charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony. The investigation remains ongoing.
