ALABAMA — Two people were arrested Monday on multiple drug-related charges following a trespassing incident at Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, according to authorities.
Officials with the Alabama Department of Corrections said K-9 officers at Fountain Correctional Facility were alerted to a trespass at Holman around 12:15 a.m. on April 6. K-9 teams responded and tracked the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Mathew Neal Jordan, who was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators said Jordan was later turned over to the narcotics unit, which led authorities to a vehicle allegedly driven by 37-year-old Samantha Lynn Gates.
During the investigation, officials reported recovering 320 grams of synthetic cannabinoids, 36 grams of marijuana, 28 grams of methamphetamine, and 10 cell phones.
Jordan faces charges including first-degree promoting prison contraband, trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking synthetic cannabinoids, first-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, prohibited activities, and attempted controlled substance crime.
Gates is charged with two counts of criminal conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime, as well as trafficking synthetic cannabinoids and trafficking methamphetamine.
Both suspects were booked into the Escambia County Jail. Authorities said additional charges may be filed.
