NORTH CAROLINA — Two men were arrested Tuesday morning after a traffic stop in Monroe led to the discovery of drugs and a drone, according to the Monroe Police Department.

Dalontae Harris Spears, 31, and Myles Summerville, 33, both of Ohio, were pulled over around 9:30 a.m. for allegedly displaying a fake license plate while traveling through the city.

When questioned by officers, the suspects reportedly said they were headed to South Carolina to go dolphin watching.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found marijuana, THC crumble wax, a drone, fishing line and a taped package that raised concerns. Police said the package contained individually wrapped bags of marijuana, cocaine-soaked cardstock paper and a large quantity of fentanyl concealed within the crumble wax.

Investigators believe the suspects intended to use the drone to drop the package into a prison or correctional facility.

Spears and Summerville are charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both men remain in custody as the investigation continues.
