FLORIDA — Two women from Jacksonville were arrested Wednesday in Stuart after authorities say they stole approximately $8,000 worth of baby formula from local stores.

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Andrea Williams and Summer Bryant were taken into custody and each charged with felony retail theft.

Investigators said the incident began Wednesday afternoon when the two women entered a Walgreens store along U.S. 1 in Stuart. Police later discovered that shelves inside the store had been cleared of baby formula. Officers alerted the sheriff’s office, which began searching for the suspects.

A short time later, deputies spotted the women entering another Walgreens location along Kanner Highway. This time, deputies were already on scene and intervened. Authorities said they found approximately 160 cans of baby formula inside the women’s bags and their vehicle.

The sheriff’s office said additional charges are possible as the investigation continues. Williams and Bryant are currently being held at the Martin County Jail on a combined bond totaling $600,000.
