KENTUCKY — Two people have been arrested after explosives were stolen from a construction site in Louisville, according to police.
Authorities said James Culver, 44, and Lasierra Chesher, 39, were taken into custody Thursday in connection with the theft.
Police said the explosives were stolen April 1 from a construction site in the 9400 block of Old Bardstown Road.
Investigators allege Culver broke the locks at the site and that Chesher assisted him in stealing the explosives. Authorities said the materials were being stored at another person’s home.
When officers confronted the pair at their residence, police said Culver fled before both suspects were taken into custody.
According to police, investigators recovered a box of blasting caps at the home, along with a .22-caliber rifle with various ammunition, a shockwave exploding target and multiple explosive labels and instructional materials.
Culver is charged with theft of explosive material, possession of explosive material and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Chesher is charged with theft of explosive material and possession of explosive material by a convicted felon.
Authorities said Culver could face up to 35 years in prison if convicted, while Chesher could face up to 20 years.
Both suspects are being held at the Oldham County Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing.
