NORTH CAROLINA — Two Havelock residents have been charged after authorities say they attempted to steal a dog from a property in Craven County.

According to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded March 13 to a report of a dog larceny on Old Cherry Point Road. Investigators said two suspects entered the property, placed the homeowner’s dog into their vehicle and attempted to leave.

The homeowner confronted the suspects and was able to stop them, detaining both individuals until deputies arrived on the scene.

Authorities identified the suspects as Marlyn James Edinger, 71, and Mary Ann Edinger, 49, both of Havelock.

Both individuals were charged with larceny of a dog. Officials said each posted a $2,500 secured bond.

The case remains under investigation.
