OHIO — Two men from Akron, Ohio, were arrested Tuesday afternoon in Gallia County following a high-speed chase that ended with a crash and the discovery of drugs and a firearm, according to the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they attempted to stop a vehicle with New York license plates that failed to yield along Raccoon Road in Clay Township.
During the pursuit, deputies reported seeing items thrown from the vehicle along Route 218. The chase later moved onto U.S. Route 7 near Gallipolis, where deputies said it appeared a firearm was tossed from the vehicle.
Authorities said spike strips were deployed, disabling the vehicle, which then crashed into a guardrail along Neighborhood Road in Green Township.
The driver, Amir Xavier Terrell Peake, 26, was charged with failure to comply with officers and having weapons while under disability. Jail records also indicated Peake had active warrants for parole violations. The passenger, Silas Dangelo Hardiman, 21, was charged with tampering with evidence and having weapons while under disability.
Both men were taken to Holzer Medical Center for treatment of injuries from the crash before being booked into the Gallia County Jail. Investigators said a search of the vehicle uncovered narcotics and a semi-automatic handgun. Deputies said additional charges are possible pending review by prosecutors.
