NORTH CAROLINA — Two people were arrested in Craven County after deputies say a “love triangle” led to a violent assault.
According to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Keener Avenue in New Bern around 1:30 p.m. on March 12 after receiving a report of a domestic assault. Investigators say a homeowner was attacked with a baseball bat, and the suspect fled before deputies arrived.
Authorities identified the suspect as 21-year-old Speciale Sanders of New Bern. Deputies say Sanders was picked up by 25-year-old Courtney Hastings of Havelock, who drove the suspect away from the scene.
Both were located near the intersection of Keener Avenue and Wildlife Road.
Sanders faces charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and was also served outstanding warrants for shoplifting, misdemeanor larceny and second-degree trespass.
Hastings was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, along with an outstanding felony probation violation warrant.
Sanders was denied bond, while Hastings received a $35,000 bond. Both were taken to the Craven County Confinement Facility.
