NORTH CAROLINA — Two Lincoln County residents have been arrested on felony charges after a 19-month-old child tested positive for narcotics, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Alyssa Woody and Brandon Treadway, both of Lincoln County, are charged with felony negligent child abuse. Authorities said both were issued no bond and were scheduled to appear in court Monday, March 2, for their first appearance.

The investigation began after a sheriff’s sergeant was notified by hospital staff that the child tested positive for narcotics while being treated in the emergency department. Before a deputy arrived at the hospital, Woody and Treadway reportedly left the facility with the child.

Deputies later located the pair and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Car Farm Road, where both were taken into custody. The child was transported back to the hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. The child’s identity has not been released to protect her privacy.

A detective assigned to the case conducted multiple interviews with the suspects. Investigators also executed a search warrant at a residence, where they recovered evidence related to the case.

The investigation remains ongoing.
